A Special Note for " Mothers Of" who are going to visit our store.
We would like to begin by congratulating you on your upcoming event. 'This is a very special occasion in your life and Jacqueline will work very hard to make your shopping experience as hassle and stress free as possible. If this is your first special occasion then you will find the information below very informative. If it is your second time going through this process, a quick refresher is always helpful. We encourage our clients to shop Early, because if a special order is necessary, it takes as long as three (3) months to special order a dress from many designers. Although we have a large inventory of dresses in stock, many dresses must be special ordered to get you the style you love in the correct color and size. Some designers have inventory, many do not. Special Ordering Eveningwear/Party Dresses is a very common practice.
2. The 4+ Month Rule:
If you visit our store and find the perfect dress or gown but it's not available in the size or the color of your choice, you will need to special order one that meets your specific needs. Special orders usually require a three month or longer lead time to arrive because the majority of designers manufacture their garments overseas. As costs have gone up, production times have slowed down.
Additionally, you must allow four to six weeks for alterations to be done if you choose to have your garment altered (thus, The 4+ Month Rule). We also work with many designers that manufacture in the United States. The turnaround time on these garments can be much faster, if necessary. Again: Order early to get the garment of your choice and to avoid rush charges. If ordering early is not an option, we will do our best for you. Remember, Jacqueline has a large selection of eveningwear in stock.
3. Your Jean/Pant size is not your Dress size:
Eveningwear designers cut everything Small. In most cases eveningwear designers cut their dresses 1 to 2 sizes smaller than your regular clothes. We must base the size we order for you on your measurements and compare them to the particular designer's size specifications. Please note that alterations will most likely still be necessary.
4. Ordering something you didn't try on in your size:
This occurs everyday in the dress business. As noted above, if the garment of your choice is not available in your size or color, you will need to place a special order. Although alterations may still be necessary, it is important that accurate measurements be taken to procure the size that will best accommodate your body. 'If you are ordering online, we recommend that you have a professional measure you if you are unable to visit our store.
5. How early is too early to shop for your dress?:
As you have learned from the "4+ Month Rule" you can't wait until the last minute if you wish to have exactly what you want. Most eveningwear is seasonless so you do not need to wait for Spring to find a dress that is appropriate for your Spring/Summer occasion. In a perfect world ordering six months prior to your occasion leaves you enough time select the dress of your choice with plenty of time for alterations. We always recommend that our customers have the dress hanging in their closets, altered, four weeks prior to the occasion. So again, browse early, shop early and if necessary, special order, Early.

Happy Shopping!
